United Methodist Men

The UMM will met on Monday, November 14 in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 pm.  They continued their book study on "Strong Men of Heart Heart....Biblical Men of Compassion". The book highlights 50 men in the Bible from obscure figures such as Ebed Melech and Tobit, to The Prodigal's Father and Jesus Christ. Each chapter is short, maybe 2 pages, and concludes with 3 discussion questions.  Each chapter will be led by one of our UMM.

The challenges we face today as men are easily identifiable through these Biblical figures. This study will be enjoyable and rewarding. Please join us. Books are available from Greg Kornegay @ $5.

Salud Y Paz in Guatemala and Suzanna Wesley Preschool

Anita Metz and Evelyn Aranda went to Guatemale where they joined a mission team from Florida to add some finishing touches to the Suzanna Wesley Preschool Classrooms at the Camanchaj clinic.  Evelyn painted wall murals depicting Guatamalen people and Anita did construction work.  This was Anita's first trip.  Evelyn traveled to Quetzaltenango to take a 2 week language immersion course in Kiche', the dialect of the Mayan People.  A video clip of the project is available on the website www.youtube.com  Search for Camanchaj, Guatemale (Suzanna Wesley Preschool).

This past year we collected money by dropping loose change in a large jug.  The money was recently counted.   This will pay a teacher's salary for a year at the Suzanna Wesley Preschool.  Thanks to each of you who contributed.  We hope you will continue to support this mission.

Hand N Hand & Prayer Partners

The staff at Benson Elementary School and Benson Middle School deeply appreciated your support.   Contact Noela Woodall or Evelyn Aranda for information on how to remember our teachers during the school year or help mentor a child.  Prayer Partners are needed now!!  The Buddy Breakfast is scheduled for Monday, November 14 at Benson Elementary.

Back to School Support

We joined  with the Benson Area Ministerial Association on August 14, 2010 to provide backpacks and supplies for needy students for the upcoming  year.  We were able to provide backpacks and supplies for 209 youth in our community.  Again on August 13, 2011 we provided backpack and supplies for 323 youth from 108 families in our community.  Way to go BAMA!!

Send A Hug

The Send A Hug ministry is gearing up for another academic school year.  Our goal is to keep our young people, that are attending college, involved and connected with their church family.  Cards, surprise mailings and other contacts are made to each student throughout the year through the Send A Hug project.  As a group or individual, you can help in many ways.

1.  Be in prayer for our students as they face challenges.  Many will not have their family right there to help them and will be making many decisions on their own.

2.  Visit, e-mail or send mail to the young people to let them know that they are being remembered and prayer for.  Student names and school addresses will be put on file  at the church office as soon as they are received.

3.  Make donations to the Send A Hug project.  All the surprises, back to school kits, gift cars, an communications are supported through your donations.  Be sure to mark your check or envelope as Send A Hug so that your gift will be credited to you as well as go to the project.

Thank you for all your support in the past.  Students should have received a surprise gift card to start off their school years and a second card of encouragement.  If you know of a student that is not receiving their mail, please have them contact Susan Auman.  An updated list of student names, birthdays and addresses is available in the Church office and in all vestibules.  Please pray for these students and send them a card to let them know they are loved.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Christ Community Christmas Closet

On December 10, 2011, our church will joined with the Benson Area Ministerial Association as a community of faith to provide Christmas for needy families.  We will be gathering new or gently used toys until early December when we will join with BAMA to once again provide Christmas for families in our community.  Also, at the Thanksgiving service at Banner Chapel Church, toys and donations will be accepted.

ACTS Food Pantry

Area Churches Together with the support of the Benson Area Ministerial Association operate a Food Panty at the Benson Civic Center on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 9 to 12.  Please continue to add items to your grocery cart for distribution to the needy in our community.
ACTS Clothing Closet A clothing closet has recently been opened in conjunction with the ACTS Food Pantry.  We need children's and men's  clothing.

Kairos

We have several members who regularly serve on Kairos teams.  This is a ministry to women at the Central Prison in Raleigh.  If you are interested in finding out more about this ministry, see Amy Creed or Suzanne Cook.  Learn about the 3000 dozen cookies needed for each Kairos weekend and the hand written letters of encouragement.

Emmaus

We currently have over forty persons who have experienced the "Walk to Emmaus".  The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."

Prayer Ministry

Come pray at the altar for concerns of our church and community.  Opportunities are available on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm, Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, Saturdays at 6:30 am and Sundays at 9:30 am.  We're always looking for individuals who would like to come pray at other times.  Everyone is welcome.  Join the Men's Community Breakfast on Saturday after the prayer time for a time of fellowship followed by a bible study.  Even the women are invited!!
